This report reveals trends in patenting of artificial intelligence (AI) innovations, the top players in AI from industry and academia, and the geographical distribution of AI-related patent protection and scientific publications. Its findings are accompanied throughout by commentary and industry perspectives from more than 20 of the world’s leading experts in AI, making it of particular interest to business leaders, researchers, and policymakers.

These case studies demonstrate how the PCT has been used in the real world to promote innovation in both developed and developing countries.

In his final speech as the WIPO Director General, before handing leadership over to Daren Tang of Singapore, DG Gurry makes the case for continued advocacy of multilateralism despite the current challenges and restrictions being imposed by countries around the world, and he predicts that technologies’ push towards openness and connection will prevail over other currents that would direct us instead towards closure and separation.

Earlier this year, WIPO launched a new interview series  – “Women in Green” – that highlights the experiences and impact of female green entrepreneurs. This interesting series features innovators from different regions, representing different types of eco-friendly solutions.  The public can nominate female innovators for future interviews. This is a great way to draw attention to achievements of women on the front line of innovation.
